Geometry and geospatial data on the web

Geometry and geospatial data play an important role in digital building and infrastructure models, and its inclusion into web-based models, such as Linked Building Data (LBD), is of importance to obtain complete descriptions. Yet, the description of geometry and geospatial data in a Linked Data context is neither straightforward nor widely implemented. This chapter aims to give an overview of currently existing approaches to combine web-based building models and (non-web-based) geometry descriptions or geospatial data and discuss their issues. Moreover, existing implementations for integrating geometry descriptions in a Semantic Web context via the Ontology for Managing Geometry (OMG), the File Ontology for Geometry formats (FOG) and the Geometry Metadata Ontology (GOM) are demonstrated. Finally, available tools for spatial querying or handling and processing geometry in a Web context from ongoing research projects are revised.
