Lactobacillus plantarum ZY08 relieves chronic alcohol-induced hepatic steatosis and liver injury in mice via restoring intestinal flora homeostasis

•Lactobacillus plantarum ZY08 is a kind of probiotic isolated from local baby feces.•L. plantarum ZY08 attenuates hepatic steatosis and liver injury in alcohol-fed mice.•L. plantarum ZY08 treatment improves alcohol-destroyed intestinal barrier and gut microbiota dysbiosis, and elevates intestinalshort-chain fatty acid (SCFA) content.•ABX gavage test proves the regulative role ZY08 on intestinal flora mechanistically contributed to its protective role against ALD.
