Ocean Wave Inversion from Airborne SAR Data by Doppler Information

Due to the limitation of spatial resolution, spaceborne SAR data, which is usually used for surface current inversion, is difficult to observe ocean waves by the Doppler information. In February 2021, three L-band airborne SAR experiments were carried out in the South China Sea. The high-resolution SAR data obtained from the experiment provides a valuable opportunity for ocean wave inversion using the Doppler information and has been successfully retrieved. The comparison between retrieved sea waves and the buoy measurements shows that the two results are in agreement with each other.
