A $1\times 2$ Filtenna Array for Ku-band Applications

This paper presents a filtenna array for simultaneous radiation and filtration with the use of an inter-digital based band pass filter to the radiating element. In this regard, the inter-digital based band pass filter was achieved by modifying the feed line of the proposed antenna array which resonating at 14 GHz with impedance bandwidth of 800 MHz. With the use of such methodology the complexity of the whole design minimized and which involves (N-1) filter circuits for realizing a ( $1\times \mathrm{N}$ ) element filtenna array. Low circuit complexity, compact size and low operational power are considered as the advantageous features of the proposed structure over other reported filtenna arrays. The impedance bandwidth and peak gain of the proposed filtenna array are found to be of 540 MHz and 8.14 dBi respectively at resonating frequency of 14 GHz, covering the standard frequency spectrum of Ku-band. The physical size of the filtenna array in terms of free space wave length is $1.96\lambda_{0}\times 1.96\lambda_{0} \times 0.073\lambda_{0}$ at 14 GHz.
