• This paper is the editorial of the Special Issue ‘Digital technologies to support lifecycle management of smart product-service solutions’’. • It presents an original and comprehensive definition of smart PSS, resulting from the large state of the art developed for the Special Issue. • This editorial paper introduces nine scientific papers addressing some key international advances on smart PSS. • SI’s Structure: (i) determinants of smart PSS strategies; (ii) specificities of smart PSS design; (iii) lifecycle management via digital twins. • The paper provides a very good overview of the main trends of current researches on Digital Servitization and smart PSS.
