Towards Understanding Particle Cloud Interactions with High-Speed Boundary Layer Flows

In prior studies, the interaction of a single particle with high-speed boundary layer flows has been investigated considering particular particle-flow interaction scenarios. The present work is an extension to these studies and focuses on the main factors that characterize the interaction of particle clouds with high speed boundary layer flows. Particle-induced transition simulations have been performed employing direct numerical simulations considering particles with different sizes and impingement locations and two particle impingement. The different configurations considered here affect the initial disturbance spectra at the impingement location and as such the initial amplitudes of the boundary layer modes and subsequently the breakdown of the flow from laminar to turbulent.
