Oral and Dental Infections: Fungi

Fungal infections are the most common oral infections of the oral mucosa. Among them, those produced by the genus Candida stand out for their frequency. Oral candidiasis is usually associated with different risk factors that alter the biofilm, increase the invasion of fungi or decrease the host's ability to defend itself against such infections. In most cases, an adequate medical history and oral examination may be sufficient to reach an accurate diagnosis. In this article, we will review other tests that can be performed, and the most common protocol for treating these infections.
