Modified Atmosphere Packaging for Horticultural Products

Modified atmospheric packaging (MAP) is a one of the important packaging system which enhances the shelf life of horticultural produces. This system includes one time alteration in gas composition inside the storage chamber by incorporating either the single or the combination of the gases. Nitrogen is frequently used to reduce the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the package. In the present chapter, the role of gases used, the type of packaging materials used, indicators and factors affecting the MAP has been discussed along with recent advances done in the field of MAP for packaging of various horticultural produces.
