摘要
Microbial nanotechnology is a current booming field for the bio-based synthesis of metal nanomaterials with a green and sustainable approach that can overcome the drawbacks of traditional chemical and physical techniques for the preparation of these nanomaterials. Microbial-mediated synthesis of metallic nanoparticles (MNPs) is a nontoxic, eco-friendly, reliable, and economical approach. Up to now, different bacteria, molds, yeasts, and microalgae have been identified for the biofabrication of MNPs with specific morphologies and particle size distribution. The microbial-derived metal-based nanostructures exhibited specific biological activities including active wound healing and antibacterial potential. Among different microbially fabricated MNPs, biogenic silver and gold nanomaterials have attracted significant attention for their wound healing and antimicrobial activities. In this chapter, we reviewed the recent advances in the ability of microbial-based MNPs for wound healing and infection control. The biogenic MNPs mentioned here may be developed as innovative wound healing and/or antibacterial agents alone or in combination with other drugs in the future, which can result in a revolution in the treatment of chronic wounds.
