Trends in the observations at Ocean Station P and Relevance to the Two Expeditions

Relevance of Line P to Expeditions  Line P extends from the coast to Station P (=P26), about 1,400 kms.Stations P20-P26 have a high degree of overlap with IYS Expeditions stations (Fig. 1). Sampling started in 1956 and continues to this day, providing context for the Expeditions; initiated using weatherships deployed at Station P (aka Ocean Station Papa), spatial and temporal coverage changed over time with new variables added as they became standardized. At present, sampling occurs 3 times a year at 27 stations and it includes many biogeochemical variables.
