Porous carbon/Fe composites from waste fabric for high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorption

•Waste fabrics are up-recycled into high-performance microwave absorbers.•Tannic acid-Fe2+ coating catalyzes the polymer fiber into graphitized carbon fiber.•The recycling method is simple and environmentally friendly.•The minimum RL of −50.5 dB at 1.7 mm can be attained.
