Electrifying anaerobic granular sludge for enhanced waste anaerobic digestion and biogas production

•Intact AnGS was used as biocatalyst in BEAD to enhance CH4 production.•The biogas production in the BEAD was affected by applied voltage and organic loading.•System showed superior ability for highly concentrated organic waste degradation.•Significant differences in microbial community structure between anode and cathode.•This study offer a desirable biocatalyst in BEAD system for industrial application.
