A Multi-Pier-Macro MPM method for the progressive failure analysis of full scale walls in two way bending

•Progressive failure analysis of out-of-plane loaded masonry walls with a simple numerical model.•MPM (Multi-Pier Macro) approach substituting a 2D continuum with 1D equivalent elements.•Unrefined mesh made by parallelepiped cells with braces and vertical/horizontal piers.•Model benchmarked on four perforated walls out-of-plane loaded in two way bending.•Very accurate results found at a fraction of the time needed by previously presented approaches.
