A Fault Diagnosis Strategy for Stator Windings Inter-turn Short Circuit of Synchronous Condenser

The new synchronous condenser has been a research spot to be an important electrical equipment in power systems. In this paper, a stator winding inter-turn fault diagnosis strategy of condenser is proposed. Firstly, the mathematical equation of condenser with stator inter-turn fault are derived. Then the relationship between current of fault branch and the grounding wire current is deduced. The influence of stator fault on rotor field current of condenser is analyzed. The proposed strategy diagnoses the stator winding fault based on the second harmonic in field current. The stator fault can be diagnosed without the influence of the grid side and the accuracy of the diagnosis method can be increased. Finally, the proposed method has been validated by simulation results.
