摘要
The transfer film formation has been extensively studied by many researchers because of its favourable frictional resistance property. This helps to reduce the friction coefficient and wear rate of the polymer material at dry sliding condition. This article review the major effects of transfer layer (TFL) at different sliding conditions for three combinations of the materials: polymer-polymer, polymer-metal and metal-metal. In all these three cases TFL plays a major role in reducing friction under lubricated and non-lubricated conditions. This article also explore the behaviour of TFL at various loading and velocity conditions. Also the methods used to measure the thickness of the layer also explored. It will give a basic insight on wear behaviour of various materials and the related effects on TFL formation. A basic understanding of TFL under various material sliding combination is needed to analyse the wear mechanism in a better way. Copyright (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
