•Heated plasma polymer exposed to the beam of nanoparticles immobilizes them on surface.•Nitrogen added during plasma polymerization improves Ag nanoparticles attachment.•Increased adhesion of nitrogen-rich C:H:N:O film to silver was measured using AFM.•Ultrasonication stable Ag nanoparticles/C:H:N:O films are strongly antibacterial.
