•A priori fully resolved transient premixed head-on quenching simulation is conducted.•Capability of LES FSD based models to determine near-wall CO is investigated.•Lookup table based on T and O2/CO2 is a promising approach for modelling CO.•Unity Sd∗/SL assumption does not hold during the flame quenching.•Entire filtered flame front displacement term, ρSd|∇c|‾ needs to be modelled.
