Electrochemical reduction and kinetic analysis of oxidized mercury in wastewater by choosing titanium plate as cathode

•An electrochemical reduction system with titanium plate as cathode was established to study the mechanism and kinetics of Hg2+ reduction.•The optimal conditions for the reduction of Hg2+ have been studied, showing high reduction efficiency.•The electrode has good stability, which provides feasibility for practical industrial application.
