Effect of structural variation in biomass-derived nonfluorinated ionic liquids electrolytes on the performance of supercapacitors

Biomass-derived green ionic liquid (IL) electrolyte [P4444][HFuA] and its structural analogue [P4444][TpA] have been evaluated as electrolytes in supercapacitors. The fabricated supercapacitors exhibited relatively lower capacitance at room temperature and higher capacitance at elevated temperatures. Atomistic computations revealed that the [HFuA]− anion exhibited somewhat tilted configurations on the carbon electrode surface, contributing to their higher capacitive performance.
