Velika Pećina: Zooarchaeology, taphonomy and technology of a LGM Upper Paleolithic site in the central Balkans (Serbia)

•Velika Pećina provides a rare picture of human activities in the central Balkans region during the Last Glacial Maximum.•The vertebrate fauna shows a remarkable diversity of taxa and habitats in the region during this climate interval.•People used the cave for brief periods over a span of ca. 4000 years, but especially during the two millennia around the interval of peak glaciation.•Evidence indicates a broad range of subsistence and manufacture activities in the context of small residential encampments.
