Investigations on the chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling process using Indian coal and copper oxide oxygen carrier

•CLOU process using Indian coals and CuO combination explored.•Best performance of CLOU was achieved at 850 °C with coal to OC mass ratio was 1:30.•The kinetics of coal combustion was estimated using Coats and Redfern method.•3D Jander diffusional model was the best-fitted model for all coal samples.•Estimated Ea values were in the range of 102.6–129.0 kJ/mol in combustion zone.
