Image alignment using mixture models for discontinuous deformations

•An image alignment method based on a mixed mesh warping model for discontinuous deformations, is proposed.•The approach to estimate the mixture model by VB framework depending on feature point matches, is introduced.•The warping prediction scheme to assign each pixel to one of the component of the mixture model, is given.
