Experimental investigation on the distribution characteristics of droplets in annular flow with wide liquid viscosity range

•Droplet distribution in annular flow with wide liquid viscosity range was experimentally studied.•Radial evolution of droplets with different liquid viscosities was analyzed.•Droplet characteristics undergo two different changes during the increase of liquid viscosity.•Droplets have very low sphericity at high liquid viscosity.
