Design of blockchain-based apps using familiar software patterns with a healthcare focus

ABSTRACTOver the past several years, blockchain technology has attracted interest from computer scientists and domain experts in various industries, including finance, real estate, healthcare, and transactive energy. This interest initially stemmed from the popularity of Bitcoin [Nakamoto 2012], which is a cryptographic currency framework that was the first application of blockchain. Blockchain possesses certain properties, such as decentralization, transparency, and immutability, that have allowed Bitcoin to become a viable platform for "trustless" transactions [Blundell-Wignall 2014], which can occur directly between any parties without the intervention of a trusted intermediary.
