•Semi-automated assessment improved the inter-reader agreement on the classification of subsolid nodules as nonsolid or part-solid (kappa 0.974 versus 0.783).•Inter-reader agreement on Lung-RADS classification was improved using semi-automated diameter and volume than with manual diameter (kappa 0.958 and 0.952 versus 0.652).•Semi-automated measurement tended to categorize into high-risk categories subsolid nodules subsequently confirmed as invasive adenocarcinomas on pathology.
