摘要
The box jellyfish eye lens protein, J2, belongs to the structural family known as crystallins, which form hydrogels to refract light and help contribute to varying levels of sight in different animals, ranging from rough light intensity to detailed images, although exactly how remains unknown. Current structure prediction software indicates that this crystallin has very little similarity to previously characterized proteins. This supports our hypothesis that it has a novel fold; potentially one of very few unique conformations identified in recent decades, which will be validated through structure determination.
