Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) is the only therapy that can change the natural history of allergic diseases and it has been established as an effective treatment in immediate-type allergic reactions and associated diseases such as asthma and rhinoconjunctivitis. This applies to both subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT). SCIT is safe and mostly well tolerated. However, patients are required to attend a medical facility with trained staff and proper equipment to manage potential reactions.
