Kinetic modelling of the photocatalytic degradation of Diisobutyl phthalate and coupling with acoustic cavitation

•DiBP removal by photocatalysts (TiO2 and ZnO) and combination with cavitation.•New kinetic modelling used to account for influence of intermediates.•Enhancement of hybrid process correctly quantified by kinetic model.•Higher synergy observed initially for hybrid process, plateaus with reaction extent.•Influence of pH on DiBP degradation dominated by PC process in case of hybrid.
