•From 2012 to 2016 the rate of SLNB alone increased, while the rate of IFL +/− SLNB decreased.•Overall, radiation was used in two thirds of patients, with chemoradiation in approximately one third.•OS was not different between patients who received SLNB-alone vs. IFL +/− SLNB.•Receipt of chemotherapy and radiation was associated with improved OS.
