Re: 'How To: ECOFFs – the why, the how and the don´ts of EUCAST epidemiological cutoff values' by Kahlmeter et al.

With great interest we read the article by Kahlmeter and Turnidge [1] about recent suggestions for setting an ECOFF (epidemiological cut-off value). We fully support the idea of an introduction of an ECOFF and a differentiation between an ECOFF and a clinical breakpoint due to the reasons explained. We appreciate the suggested adjustments with the updated versions of the EUCAST standard operating procedure (SOP) documents 10.1 and 10.2 regarding how to set and define an ECOFF; the latter version was the basis for describing and explaining the objectives for the updates in 10.2 in the mentioned paper.
