Thermal conductivity of scrap tire rubber-sand composite as insulating material: Experimental investigation and predictive modeling

•A new insulating material of rubber-sand composite is proposed and its thermal conduction behaviors are comprehensively evaluated.•Hybrid effects of particle size ratio, rubber content, and degree of saturation on thermal conductivity are investigated.•A new normalized model to estimate thermal conductivity of the insulating material is developed and verified.
