Upcycled Polyurethane Products Based Waterborne Polyurethane Dispersions

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In 2020, the Mattress Recycling Council California, LLC (MRC) recovered approximately 13 million pounds of flexible polyurethane foam in California. Volume in future years is expected to grow due to several factors some of which include increased popularity of all foam mattresses, improved collection and logistics processes and recycling rate improvements. MRC’s research team supports new and innovative end of life solutions for post-consumer polyurethane foam. A research contract was established with UCLA to evaluate the conversion of upcycled polyurethane foam into waterborne polyurethane dispersions.
