Principal Phosphor Materials and Their Optical Properties

Semiconductor light-emitting materials, as an important class of principal luminescence/phosphor materials, have attracted widespread research attention all over the world. Various optoelectronic semiconductors, including group II–VI (e.g., ZnSe, ZnS and ZnO), group III–V (e.g., GaAs, GaN and AlGaN), group IV (SiC) and emerging perovskites, have been extensively studied during the last decades. Many of them demonstrate great application potential in light-emitting device, laser, second harmonic generation, photodetector and solar cell. In this chapter, we will introduce the fundamental properties of these optoelectronic semiconductors, summarize their latest progresses on material growth, optical/optoelectronic property control and device application. Finally, the challenges and opportunities for the future development of these semiconductors are discussed.
