Dual-crosslinked networks of superior stretchability and toughness polyacrylamide-carboxymethylcellulose hydrogel for delivery of alendronate

•A superior stretchability and toughness polyacrylamide-based with dual-crosslinked networks hydrogel was prepared.•The hydrogel in 10% zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 concentration showed superior mechanical properties.•The hydrogel had the ability to sustained release alendronate (6 d).•The results indicate potential applications in bone tissue engineering.
