Stimulation research on capacitive deionization regeneration for absorption air-conditioning system

With emphasis on sustainable development, absorption system has attracted more attention for its potential being a green air-conditioning system. However, its application is limited to low energy efficiency because of heat dissipation in regeneration. To address this issue, a capacitive deionization (CDI) regeneration method has been proposed: it achieves the deionization and regeneration with electric power and reaches better performance with energy recovery strategy. Present investigations are mainly confined to experimental conditions, which lacks effective analysis on system performance. Hence, this paper has analysed the CDI regeneration method with numerical stimulation, which could expose the mechanisms of mass transfer and help in optimization of system. Two-dimensional model has been established and its reliability has been verified experimentally. The CDI dynamic stimulation has revealed the concentration distribution of ions during adsorption. For better performance, different charging voltages have been compared to find out the optimum value. The numerical results indicate that the ions concentration on the boundary increases significantly and the maximum COP could exceed 3 based on the optimum parameter of CDI unit.
