•There was a parametrization inconsistency when comparing SWINGO, Hydrus-1D, and Wu et al. (2021)’s model in Wu et al. (2021).•SWINGO and Wu et al. (2021)’s model have a general validity to predict the infiltration rate with a shallow water table.•Wu et al. (2021)’s model has been further validated by the experimental data of Vachaud et al. (1974) and Chu (1997).
