Aluminum(III), iron(III) and copper(II) complexes of luteolin: Stability, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties

•Al(III)-, Fe(III)- and Cu(II)-luteolin complexes was studied in aqueous medium.•The stoichiometry of the complexes was determined by potentiometric measurements.•The coordination sites were defined by computational study.•The complex with iron was found to have a higher antioxidant activity than the others.•All the complexes reduce LPS-induced IL-6 levels in monocyte-derived macrophages.
