Study on the scattering characteristics of Ka millimeter wave by dust storms

摘要
•As to reveal the scattering characteristics of Ka millimeter wave by sand particles, the integrated detection on dust storms over the Taklimakan Desert is first time to conduct with the Ka band MWR, the Grimm 180, the Laser Particle Size Analyzer and the visibility meter.•The complex permittivity of sand particle, the probability distribution function of sand particles, the number of sand particles and the attenuation coefficient were calculated based on the real observations.•The reflectivity factors of dust storm are calculated and analyzed, based on the power spectrum data detected by the MWR and the visibility data observed by the visibility meter.
