Association between self-rated health and venous thromboembolism in Malmö Preventive Program: A cohort study

•We studied the association between SRH at baseline and incident VTE in 33,346 individuals during a follow-up of 44 years.•Good SRH at baseline was associated with a lower risk for VTE among women but not among men.•In our study, SRH was not found to be associated with VTE in men regardless of the length of follow-up time.•Future studies on SRH's association with VTE should consider psychosocial factors.
