The use of patient-reported outcome measures in the literature on traumatic foot fractures: A systematic review

•There is a wide variety of foot-specific patient-reported outcome measures available, making comparison between studies difficult.•The most frequently used instrument is the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Ankle-Hindfoot Scale.•Great controversy surrounds the instrument that is used most frequently.•Instrument choice should be deliberate, having considered the psychometric properties in context of the proposed population and translation.
