A Single Model Deep Learning Approach for Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis

•Different Convolutional Neural Network models are evaluated systemically.•Models with moderate rather than largest capacity can achieve better performance.•A data augmentation strategy for Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis is proposed.•Explanation heatmaps are generated to make model more transparent.•The generalizability of our approach is assessed on two public datasets.
