Effect of grain size on the bacterial oxidation of a refractory gold sulfide concentrate and its dissolution by cyanidation

•Grain reduction decreases the residence time of the bioleaching of gold sulfide.•Gold recovery by cyanide in the bioleached residue increases with grain reduction.•The cyanide consumption decreases as a function of the grain size.
