Optical control for solar mirrors

•Controlling the surface curvature of the heliostats reduces energy losses.•This control has ease of application, low cost equipment and simplicity of processing.•Acquired and reference images are compared to assess the mirror surface quality.•Surface faults of the reflective surface appear as deformations in the pattern image.•This method can be adapted to examine mirrors of various shapes and sizes.
