•A point-kinetics solver for OpenFOAM has been developed and made available on GitLab.•A point-kinetics solver has been integrated into the GeN-Foam multiphysics solver.•The steady-state and transient behaviour of the FFTF has been simulated.•GeN-Foam and the new point-kinetics solver have been preliminary validated against experimental data.
