Oxycodone-related deaths in Sweden 2006–2018

•Oxycodone-related deaths increased in Sweden between 2006 and 2018 in parallel to an increase in oxycodone prescriptions.•The oxycodone-related deaths occurred more frequently in older adults with previous prescription of oxycodone•Oxycodone-related deaths have increased their share of the total Swedish opioid-related mortality, which is mainly caused by prescription opioids.
