An analytical model for solar energy reflected from space with selected applications

•Orbiting solar reflectors can be used to provide/reject heat to/from a planetary body.•Previous studies use simplified models, overestimating solar energy delivered.•A model presented with full time-varying geometry with losses.•Idealised version of the model has an analytical solution.•Several applications and scalability of the energy delivered for planetary bodies is discussed.
