Possibilities for Shifting Goods from Road to Rail Freight Transport in the Czech Republic

Abstract The paper deals with the change in the modal share of total freight transport. The aim is to reduce carbon emissions in freight transport to zero by 2030 and then by 2050 again, which will require a shift of freight transport from road to railway. As far as the Czech Republic is concerned, only land transport modes are substantial. The task will not be easy, as rail transport still has a share of about 30% of total transport. The change in transport policy is based on the EU Green Deal.
