摘要
First responders, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical service personnel, are often exposed to high-stress and potentially traumatic situations. The ability to both recognize mental health problems among first responders and minimize stigma is critical to enable timely and appropriate access to services. This chapter details a number of programs that have been developed to reduce the stigma of mental illness in first responder organizations. The research suggests that multiple types of programs are needed because no one program will fit all groups, but continued efforts to prioritize mental health and implement proactive mental health programs and leadership training will lead to a reduction of stigma.
