Excipient toxicity and safety

Excipients are critical components in pharmaceutical formulations. However, they are also known for their toxicity. The toxicity of the excipients can vary depending on various factors like route of administration, acute or chronic exposure, which may include carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, genotoxicity, and irritation. In this chapter, we highlighted various in silico approaches to determine excipient toxicity. The discussion also emphasizes the orphan excipient toxicity. In addition to this brief discussion on the excipient toxicities of specific origin is also provided in this chapter.
