摘要
Neuropsychological testing is conducted in Japan, although it is typically supervised by physicians rather than psychologists. However, there is a growing awareness about the discipline and practice of neuropsychology. This chapter reviews the demographic, historical, linguistic, and sociocultural aspects of Japan that may intersect with neuropsychological practice. Recommendations are offered when assessing Japanese national and Japanese-American patients, with commentary on cultural factors, test selection, and interpretation. The content of this chapter emerges from the combined perspectives and experiences of an American-born mixed-race neuropsychologist and a Japanese-born neuropsychologist. It closes with a case study involving a Japanese boy who sustained a traumatic brain injury while vacationing in the United States.
